Wine Tasting - Saturday 1-4PM, Nov 30

Your host is Peter Slywka of Michael Skurnik Wines.

Piaggia Carmignano Il Sasso 2010           $27.99
“Late harvests, low yields, lengthy macerations and no fining/filtration are the rule at Piaggia. These new releases from proprietor Mauro Vannucci show exceptional balance, and his 2006s are the best wines I have ever tasted from the estate.”  – The Wine Advocate, Aug. 2009

“A new winery for me that's very good indeed.” – James Suckling in the Wine Spectator

The Carmignano Riserva is “simply the best of the appellation.” -- The Wine Advocate

Soter North Valley Pinot Noir 2011                        $32.99
The wine features notes of orange blossoms, cranberries, blackberries, sweet cream, cocoa, minerals, and has a markedly silky and supple mouthfeel. Long and lush, the wine leaves big, thick tears in the glass and its soft entry invites sip after sip.  Pour it against your favorite single-vineyard Oregon Pinot, and understand why North Valley is already featured at some of the finest restaurants in the country.

Capiaux Chimera Pinot Noir 2012              $30.99
This wine is crafted from blending several Northern California vineyard sites to create one comprehensive expression of elegant and opulant Pinot Noir. 34% Bianchi Vineyard (Sonoma Coast), 28% Jasper Vineyard (Sonoma Coast), 21% Wilson Vineyard (Sonoma Coast), 13% Guiseppe Vineyard (Sonoma Coast), and 4% Pisioni Vineyard (Santa Lucia Highlands).

Margaine Brut Champagne N.V.                $44.99
Pale yellow. Highly perfumed aromas of tangerine, pear, white flowers and ginger. Silky and focused on the palate, offering vibrant orchard and citrus fruit flavors that gain flesh and weight with air. Shows a seamless texture and finishes long, with clinging pear and honeysuckle qualities. International Wine Cellar, 91 pts

Small Business Saturday, Are you shopping small?... Local?...

Black friday has come and gone. We were given plenty of opportunity to stand in long lines over the past 48 hours risking life and limb, all to have the opportuniy to wrestle one of the (2 or 3 per store) "door buster" specials out of someone else's hand.  Just like years past, someone inevitably got arrested or crushed in the melee.

Ah, "Big Box" stores, aren't they wonderful...

Amex has another approach for you this Saturday, Shop small.

Sign up on line and shop small (and locally of course), spend $10 and get $10 back on your statement at the end of the month and all you have to do is check out their list of participating small businesses and stop in to be helped individually at a store that knows who you are and helps to keep the money you spend in the local economy. Win, win!

The best part is that Harry's is involved for the second straight year and if that isn't enough, many of our neighbors have joined in too. Come down to the corner, be taken good care of and save a few dollars in the process. How civilized!

Let us help you to enjoy the holidays. Harry's is really very connected with you around the holidays and we do enjoy seeing you all. So, if you are around on Saturday stop down and see us but if you miss the Amex promotion we will still be here to help you all the way through the holidays.

If you want fighting we aren't the right store for you. :)

-Cheers!

Giving Thanks...

We at Harry's would like to take just a couple of minutes on this very busy day to offer our thanks...

As a group we are very fortunate to be part of a community that does so much to support our store and each of us has developed relationships with our patrons that blurs the line defining the worker-customer norm. There is a tradition at this shop that was started more than seven decades ago when Harry himself made a very simple but powerful and long lasting statement. He said, "It is my job to get customers to comer to the store and it is your job to get them to come back".

From that day until now and long into the future this is our goal. Some of the faces will change over time but this very simple first rule means that your shopping experience with us should be comfortable and the person assisting you should always be courteous, and you should feel like we are there to be helpful to you.

This past week kicked the holiday season into high gear and for the next month or so most of our lives will get very hectic as the preparations consume so much of our time. Please do your best to take some time to look around and be in the moment as it happens. Enjoy this very special time of the year with family and friends that you don't always have the opportunity to see and interact with.

Give thanks for the people that make your life happy and rewarding and when you are feeling overwhelmed take a minute to yourself and breath. Harry's and its staff is here to do our part when you need a last minute hostess gift or the perfect bottle of wine for the feast so let us help to make the season a little brighter and to help shoulder the load for you.

Thank you to all of of you for your friendships and loyal patronage through the years. We are truly appreciative and we hope it shows in our service to you.

We wish you and your family a very Hapy Thanksgiving,

William, Patrick, Scott and the rest of the Harry's family

Special Tasting Onyx Moonshine Cocktails Sat. Nov. 23 4-7pm

Tonights tasting hosted by Jeff from Onyx Moonshine. This is a local product produced right here in Connecticut and he is mixing some terrific Thanksgiving cocktails. Check out their website (http://www.onyxmoonshine.com/) for recipes or come down and try. He'll share recipes with you here.

Onyx Moonshine  $24.99
A modern take on traditional New England-style moonshine, based on an age-old secret recipe. Onyx makes the perfect mixer for your favorite cocktail, and is exceptionally smooth served neat, straight-up or on the rocks.

Onyx Apple Honey Infusion $29.99
Raise a glass to the fruits of harvest. Delicious Honeycrisp apples, honey, and cinnamon carefully steep in our ultra premium moonshine to create a flavorful blend of distinctly local traditions. Our Apple Honey moonshine is the right pick this season—or any.

Traditional moonshine with a modern twist

Bootlegging runs in the blood of Onyx’s co-founders, Adam and Pete. Adam’s relatives ran a Prohibition-era speakeasy on the Connecticut River, and Pete’s relatives have had a farm in Wethersfield, Connecticut, for more than 100 years that, shall we say … grew corn. Inspired by family lore and a rich local tradition, they set out to take American moonshine to a new level, using a secret recipe that they painstakingly refined.
The result is a new legacy. With its launch in 2011, Onyx Moonshine became New England’s first legal moonshine since Prohibition, and the first ultra-premium American moonshine ever.
Made in a small distillery in East Hartford, Connecticut, from carefully selected corn, malted grains and pure Connecticut spring water, Onyx Moonshine infuses age-old Yankee charm with a flavor and mixability that “shines” in the modern world.
In two brief years, Onyx has already become one of the fastest-selling spirits in Connecticut and is now available in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Look for us wherever top shelf liquors are sold. We’re all about word of mouth, so if you don’t see Onyx, ask for it and help spread the word!

Wine Tasting And/or Beer Tasting 4 - 7pm Friday, Nov 22

You host is Jim Morrison of Artisan Wines Featuring Oregon wines

Belle Pente Chardonnay 2009    $35.99
ur 100% Estate Grown Chardonnay comes from a little 2 acre parcel planted in 1999 on a steep southwest facing slope with rows running up & down the hill from north-east to south-west.  These vines have produced very compelling wines for the past several years, and this 2009 version is no exception.  If you've had our Chardonnay in the past, you know what we're talking about.  If not, it's time to give it

Belle Pente Pinot Noir 2010    $41.99
This "flagship" Pinot from our Belle Pente Estate vineyard gets better and better every year as the vines reach maturity.  In this vintage, the grapes came from 7 of our 8 blocks of Pinot, all of which were over 12 years old.   About half the blend was a melange of the newer Dijon selections (113, 114, 115, and 777), with one third Pommard, and the balance Wadensvil.  This mix of the "old" and "new" clones has proven to be a harmonious combination producing complex, complete wines in warm and cool vintages alike.  The total is always more than the sum of the parts.

McKinlay Pinot Noir 2012    $19.99
A classic Pinot Noir from Oregon! Filled with currant and summer cherry aromas that follow through on the palate, silky tannins, and balanced acidity, this juicy wine is meant for the dinner table or the cellar. Perfect with cranberry-sauced turkey, roast goose, and mushroom quiche

Kelly Fox Maresh Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010    $59.99
Made using fruit sourced from 40-year-old vines, this elegant and detailed Pinot Noir does not shy away from flavors of leaf and herb. But they are anchored in pure and expressive fruit, with old-vine flavors of bramble and pepper. What is most exceptional is the delicacy and length of this wine, two characteristics shared by all of the Kelley Fox wines.

Your host is the rep from Narragansett.

Lager                           $5.29/6pb
This beer is brewed just right for drinking—crisp and refreshing. It’s got more flavor than other premium lagers, yet it’s one of the most drinkable beers in the world. Narragansett has the highest rating of all domestic premium lagers on BeerAdvocate.com, and received the bronze medal for American Lagers at the 2008 World Beer Cup. 2010 Gold Medal winner in the lager category at the 14th annual Great International Beer & Cider Competition in Providence, RI.

Bohemian Pilsner        $9.29/6pb
We are pleased to offer you this Bohemian-style pilsner, a craft-brewed tribute to the original lager. Our Bohemian Pilsner delivers an enjoyable malt profile with flavorful, aromatic hop characterisitics from Nothern Brewer and Hallertau hops.

Cream Ale                   $8.99/6pb
This is the perfect lawn-mower beer. Our cream ale was brewed with an ale yeast and lagered at 38 degrees for a clean, crisp finish.  This beer is clean, flavorful, light, and crisp, making it a real thirst quencher. It’s an ode to beers of a forgotten age, when things were just a bit slower…and some would say a little bit better. You’ll really enjoy the supreme drinkability of this beer, whether you’re mowing the lawn or mowing down duckpins at the local lanes.

Milbrandt Traditions Riesling 2012                $11.99

This is made in a refreshing, off-dry style with aromas and flavors of sweet Elberta peach, ripe Granny Smith apple and zesty Key lime. The wine is bright with a pronounced minerality reminiscent of wet stone on the mid-palate and with a crisp fruit-driven finish.
