Wine Classes - July 2016

William's Magical Mystery Tour July 13th, 7-9pm    $35
Let's have some fun! If you have ever been to one of William's classes you will remeber the fun and the challenge of getting through the evening. He makes his selections (always good) and then we brown bag them and do them blind. Some a very straight forward and easy to understand wines that are delicious and very affordable and some are world class wines that seduce your palate. However, don't be fooled! Just when you think you know what is happening, there is a twist. What is the twist? The only way to find out is to be there.

Kristin is a long time friend of Harry's and we are happy to finally get here to join us for a class! Her company "West Coast Burgundy" focuses on the varietals found in the Burgundy region of France with the capable hands of our domestics producers stamp on them. On the nose Sweet biscuity and caramel malts, subtle notes of fresh fennel and green apple. On the palate Toasty malt, gentle sweetness, flash of fresh hop bitterness. The malt and hops are perfectly balanced with carbonation and light sweetness finish clean on your palate.

On the nose, an abundance of hops (citrus, floral and fruity) with

Fritz Windisch Niersteiner Kabinett 2014 $11.99
Anything But Riesling wouldbe closer to the truth. Riesling is tart,acidic andconfusing. We love its transparency, its ability to express nuances ofsoil type, its thrilling vivacity, balance and poise. These old vineyards in Nierstein with its deep redsoil retains the heat,and its wines often show exotic fruit flavors and are known for their freshness. Kabinett is typically semi-sweet with crisp acidity. These grapes are hand-picked, then de-stemmed and gently pressed, which makes Windisch-Wines the most enjoyable to the fanatical Riesling fans.

Traveling to Spain with Len (The Wine Tutor) Gulino through pictures

Our Wine school teacher, Len Gulino is currently brushing up on Spain for our upcoming fall semester and what better way to do it than spending some time face to face with some of the country's winemakers and taking in their prospective on what they do so well. 

You will see that len not only enjoys the wines but also the food and culture that is attached to it. We are confident that looking through his experiences will motivate some of our followers to start planning their own visit. i know we are!

Bodegas La Gitana in San Lucar, one of the 3 sherry triangle towns.  U.S. marketing manager, Miquel, is drawing 30 year Amontillado sherry from a barrel with the age old tool called a venecia, and then pouring into the glass.



Sitting and tasting among the casks of 30 and 40 year old Amontillado and Oloroso in the dark, cool cellar on a hot day in southern Spain - Magic!
