Just getting started on a beautiful summer day! Kevin is showing some very unique wines for Father's Day Weekend 2013. Bobal, Mencia even Fess Parker has gotten into the game with a new vineyard designation in Santa Rita Hills. Have you got the grill out for your dad this weekend? Bobal just might be the answer! Grab dad and come taste what the summer is offering.
Stillman Street Chardonnay 2010 $13.99
This is the second label of Stuhlmuller Winery in the Alexander Valley. It is full but balanced with forward fruit and mineral and oak in the background. The flavors of pear, apple and peach are all supported by lively acid.
Fess Parker Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2010 $26.99
A solid effort considering its price and production of more than 8,000 cases, the 2010 Pinot Noir offers up dark red cherries, flowers, leather, licorice and a hint of tobacco. It shows good depth, richness and complexity at this level. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. Wine Advocate, 87 pts
Pinos Bobal 2011 $8.99
This opens with a mild oak and boysenberry bouquet. On the palate it is medium bodied, slightly acidic and easy going. The flavor profile is an oak infused red currant and gentle plum blend with notes of minerality throughout. The finish is dry, chewy, and the very dusty tannins linger for quite some time after the wine is gone. Ken’s Wine Guide, 87 pts
El Pajaro Mencia 2011 $13.99
A rich and unctuous Mencía, this has a fluency in the mouth, deploying its ripeness, completely covering the palate with caramelized and voluptuous flavors. Wine & Spirits, 90 pts
