Beer Tasting 4 - 7pm Friday, Nov 8

Your host is the rep from U.S. Beverage.

Estrella Inedit                        $9.99/750ml
Aromatized with coriander, orange peel and liquorice.
Inedit means "Never been done before". In cooperation witht the brewmasterd of Estrella Damm, Inedit was crafted by the globally acclaimed chef Ferran Andria, Juli Soler and sommeliers Ferran Centelles and David Seijas from ElBulli Restaurant.
A skillfully brewed blend of lager and wheat beer styles, Inedit uses a combination of barley malt, wheat, hops, coriander, orange peel, yeast and water. Uniquely brewed to create a complex aroma and opaque appearance, a floral nose leaves a sensation of fresh yeast and sweet spices. Lightly carbonated with a creamy texture, the soft full body leaves a long and lasting finish.

Estrella Daura                       $7.69/4pb
Estrella Damm Daura is the result of a long collaborative research process between Damm and the CSIC (National Scientific Research Council) gluten unit, using the most advanced technology. It is the first beer in Spain to guarantee a gluten content below 3 ppm (products with a gluten content below 20 ppm are suitable for people with coeliac disease).
Estrella Damm’s research and strong social commitment have made this breakthrough possible, which comes as excellent news for all those with coeliac disease.
It comes in the classic four-pack 33 cl. glass bottle format, and the label is clearly marked with the international gluten-free symbol for people with coeliac disease.

SPECIAL WINE TASTING: Geno Auriemma Wines with Kara Wolters Sat, November 16th 2013 Noon-2pm

Special Wine Tasting

Saturday, Nov 16, Noon to 2pm
Geno Auriemma Wines
with Kara Wolters
UConn NCAA Champion, WNBA Champion, and Olympic Gold Medalist

We are pleased to announce that Uconn women’s basketball star Kara Wolters will be coming to Harry’s Wine & Liquor Market on Saturday November 16, 2013 from 12:00pm-2:00pm

After four seasons at Uconn from 1993-1997 where Wolters was a national champion, National player of the year and member of the perfect 35-0 Uconn women’s basketball team, Kara won gold in Sydney representing the USA and also played for WNBA’s Houston, Indiana and Sacramento teams.

Now, along with some of the other former Uconn players, Kara is helping her former coach to kick off his line of wines here in Connecticut. Geno Auriemma is paying homage to his Italian roosts by releasing these signature wines. The tasting will include three of his four wines, Prosecco DOC; 2012 Pinot Grigio; and 2010 Puglia Rosso.

We look forward to an exciting day of wine tasting while Kara meets and greets her fans. She has agreed to sign autographs and take pictures so bring the family along to meet one of Connecticut’s best known and most liked players as she moves from center court to the center of our attention in this fun event.

The Lineup:

Pinot Grigio 2012 $11.99
This has a pale straw color.  On the nose the wine shows fresh and fruity aromas of pear along with a hint of honey.  It has a round and smooth mouth feel that makes it an easy sipper, and the white fruit flavors are very pleasing.  A great choice to enjoy with fish and salads.

Prosecco NV $15.99
This sparkling wine has a golden straw color with fresh aromas of citrus and white flowers.  On the palate are more citrus notes along with a touch of grapefruit and some green apples.  It is a perfect aperitif wine with a crisp finish that leaves the palate clean and refreshed.

Puglia Rosso 2010 $13.99
Ruby red in color this wine has very inviting aromas of cherries and spice.  On the palate it is medium-bodied with good acidity and flavors of black fruits, spice, and licorice.  It is smooth with balanced tannins and a pleasant finish.

One Shot Seasonal Deal

Calling all early birds! Renzo and Joey here, searching through the stock for some seasonal keepers. We really liked these beers when we first tried them and now they're ripe for the season. There are even a few new surprises, but there's only a little bit left so B-line it to the B-section at Harry's and catch these worms!

1) Sierra Nevada DevESTATEtion [CA]- Lemons out of Lemonade, Black IPA out of bad barley. Apparently, after a poor harvest due to bad weather the brewers at Sierra Nevada decided to salvage what they could and make a special black ale with what remained using organic barley malts and their estate-grown wet hops. Roasty malt balanced by Cascade hops yielding an herbal and vinous coffee taste.

2) Two Roads Route to All Evil [CT]- Again, black and hoppy. Interesting herbal hop character... perhaps medicinal, notes of vinyl. It has very pleasant bitterness of espresso, however. A touch of evil in its deceptive alcohol taste - masked or hidden, it is misleading! Follow your own path.

3) Foolproof  King of the Yahd [RI]- An Imperial IPA from Rhode Island? Could have fooled me! Nevertheless, here's your chance to try one. An interesting mélange of grainy honey baked bread veiled by the hop character of stone fruits and citrus.

4) CBC The Great Pumpkin [MA]- For lovers of pumpkins and The Peanuts... This, the first pumpkin ale to be bottled commercially, is one of the lightest and lowest in alcohol on the market. Refreshing and sessionable though still seasonal so snatch it up!

5) Slumbrew Attic and Eaves [MA]- A "Toasted" Brown Ale slumbrewed especially for this autumn evoked tastes of buttery nutty toast with orange marmalade. Rich and expressive, New England is comin' in big this fall!

Wine Tasting - Saturday 1-4PM, Nov 2

Your host is Michael Kane of Rosenthal Wine Merchant.

Domaine Edmond Cornu Ladoix “ViellesVignes” 2009    $29.99
Cornu's wines are very fruit driven and this is no exception, the black cherry and raspberry aromas burst from the glass. The quality of the fruit is reflected on the palate too, rich and textured, certainly drinkable at this early stage but there is considerable backbone here whichwill keep this alive for a decade.  Ladoix sits just underneath the Grand Cru Hill of Corton and the terroir shows here.  It is a classy wine.  WJGardener/U.K.reviewer, 90 pts

Marc Des champs Pouilly Fume Champs De Cri 2010     $25.99
This wine is a classic example of the appellation that is fermented with natural yeast and left on the lees for a considerable time. Rich and powerful, it is marked by an undercurrent of minerality. Even more so it has the precision, elegance and exceptional length that makes the wines of this appellation the envy of all the producers of Pouilly Fumé. Importers Notes

Tellus Vinea Red Bordeaux 2009     $13.99
The grapes for this wine are harvested (by hand) from vineyards that border the Lalande de Pomerol appellation.  The grapes undergo a three-day cold maceration; the alcoholic fermentation then proceeds for eight to ten days.  The wine is racked several times during its elevage in stainless steel and cement tanks before being bottled after an egg-white fining.  The grape composition is predominantly Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Franc in the blend that provides additional structure to the wine.   Importer’s Notes

La Manarine Cotes du Rhone Red 2011     14.99
The standard bearer of the domaine is the Côtes du Rhône Rouge produced from the younger (but not young) vines (average 35 years old) of the estate.  This wine is 100% Grenache and produces a classically spicy, full-bodied wine that speaks clearly of the “garrigue” of the region. The grapes are destemmed before the fermentation and the cuvaison is on the order of three weeks duration.  The wine is bottled without filtration after twenty to twenty-four months of “elevage”.  Importer’s Notes

Lily is going to be a Mother!

Lily has become a bit of a mascot to Harry's over the past 2 years and she really looks forward to coming to work on Sunday's when my rotation comes up. She gets lots of visitors and I am regularly asked when she will be back by moms and dads who want to bring their kids in to see her. Lily always gets alot of attention and sleeps very well on the days she works thanks to so much interaction with her and our staff and of course the scores of people that she greets through the day.

This coming Sunday November 3rd she is going to be back to visit and then next Sunday she hopes to be back for what will be her final appearance through the holiday season, you see Lily is pregnant with her first litter of puppies and after that she will need to get ready to be a mom. It is a very exciting time for us and we are really looking forward to a big family as she is expecting between 9-12 puppies!

We will be sharing her experience along the way and of course those puppies will be looking for good homes after the new year. Our breeder has been involved with every step of the process from advice to stud selection and will continue to work with us to insure wonderful and healthy puppies that will be good service dogs, hunting companions and show dogs along with being excellent family pets.

There are already a good number of people that are looking forward to having one of her puppies including Jan and myself, her breeder, and a list of families that seems to grow buy the day. We would love to keep some of her brood local and watch them grow so if there is interest in having one in your family please talk with us. We are expecting both black and yellow in the litter.

It is a very exciting time for us and we would love to see Lily visit with as many of her fans as possible over the next couple of weeks before she goes on maternity leave as she settles in to begin raising puppies.

Beer Tasting 4 - 7pm Friday, Nov 1

Your host is Calvary Brewing.

Hatch Plug
A classic English ale made with pale malt, crystal malt, Fuggles and East Kent Goldings hops providing fruity aromas to work with the subtle malt flavors. 4.5 % Alc. By Vol. 28 IBU’s.
Back of Label:
A happy tanker is a fat tanker and a real fat tanker is a Hatch Plug. This beer is named after a 1st Lieutenant that was traded for six M-16’s to another unit prior to departing for Iraq in early 2003. Hatch Plug went on to run the Baghdad airport and helped establish the telecommunications system in the region. Despite what we did to him he remains a good friend to this day.

Nomad  Stout
This dry Irish stout is smooth and flavorful with excellent malt and chocolate undertones. 4.5% Alc. By Vol. 50 IBU’s.
Back of Label:
Nomad is a good friend that led a team in eastern Baghdad with a base at the Al Rustimayah war college in southeastern Baghdad. He was the only officer in our group to be wounded and this came from an Iraqi ceiling fan. We promptly shot the fan and transported the wounded soldier to the aid station where he received three stitches.
