Beer Tasting 4 - 7pm Friday, Nov 15

Your host will be Jeff D'Andrea of Veldensteiner.

Weissbier                     $3.62/16oz
Mild tangy wheat beer with fine yeast. The distinctive, fruity flavor, highlighted with a slight banana note guarantees a particularly refreshing taste experience.

Dunkel Weissbier        $3.69/16oz
Yellow-orange color with a huge bubbly white head.  This one had a good aroma as well, with a definite citrus and spicy note on top of the wheat base.  The flavors are typical of a wheat beer... bananas come through strong, spices as well, the wheat is there, and just a hint of hops on the end.

Landbier                      $3.69/16oz
It's a darker beer, as expected, with a deep red to brown color to it.  Large head like all these Veldensteiner beers have displayed.  The aroma is rich and malty, even boozy despite the low alcohol levels.  Caramel and roasted malts come through, almost like a doppelbock.

Pils                              $3.69/16oz
Very pale yellow with a fading white head. Hoppy straw malt aroma. Rather hoppy clean crisp flavor, with the malt rather burried in German hops. Light and refreshing.

The Perfect Gift for the

Upcoming Holidays!

Wine 101:  Intro to Wine Tasting           Wednesdays                         Jan 22 and Jan 29
This is the most popular class at Harry’s Wine School. We offer it several times per year, always to a packed house!  We will cover everything you need to know about the basics of wine but didn’t know what to ask. You will learn the 5 S’s of wine tasting, the 4 taste zones of the tongue, the basic grape varieties, and much more. A selection of wines from around the world will be tasted.  This class is the foundation of all the other classes in our curriculum, and we recommend that even long-time tasters will benefit from it. The concepts and techniques that you learn here will apply to any and all future wine tastings that you will ever attend.  $70 for both weeks

Wines of France                                          Wednesdays                        Feb 5 and Feb 12
Join us as we taste through many of the great wine regions of France.  From Champagne and Alsace in the northeast to Provence on the Mediterranean coast and with many stops along the way, we will sample a wide range of wines that all shout “Vive la France!”  Considered by many to be the cradle of European wine heritage, France has a wine to please every palate.  Each week these wines will be tasted alongside a couple of perfectly paired French cheeses.  Don’t wait, register soon – this class will fill quickly!  $70 for both weeks

Value Wines at Two Price Points           Wednesdays                         Feb 19 and Feb 26
Is a $25 wine always twice as good as a $12 wine?  We get asked that question quite often.   This wine class will go a long way to help you decide for yourself!  Each week we will taste 4 quality wines at approximately $12 each, and 4 wines about $25 each - all different wines from around the world.  At the end of class each week everyone will guess the price of each bottle.  This will be your chance to see how much the price counts toward value and quality.  Will you be surprised?  $70 for both weeks

Fresh Pasta, Plus More, with Italian Wine . . . Bellissima!      Wednesday            March 5

Wine Tasting - Saturday 1-4PM, Nov 9

Your host will be Paul Cullen of Martin Scott Wines.

Flora Springs Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2011   $35.99
Chocolate-covered cherries, Herbs de Provence, fresh boysenberries, and a hint of tarragon waft from the glass to the nose. Deeply rich, provocative flavors of black licorice, rhubarb, and Asian plum round out the palate. This is a full-bodied wine yet its soft supple tannins lend to a silky smooth finish.  Winemaker’s Notes

Flora Springs Chardonnay 2011                       $17.99
We intentionally minimize the amount of oak we use on this wine to let the fruit show through. The aromatics are what we have come to expect from a predominantly Carneros blend—bright, up-front honey, pear, apple and mango that flows into the palate with a crisp acidity and fresh citrus nuance. This is a great wine to sip by itself, but would also be a wonderful accompaniment to a meal.  Winemaker’s Notes

Alta Maria Pinot Noir 2010                              $22.99
Deep ruby color; complex aromas of stewed cherry, spiceand herbs; rich and deep plum and cherry flavors with spice and herbal notes; some tannin and oak; good structure and balance; long finish. Full and complex Pinot that is a great match for grilled meats.  The Pinot Report, 93 pts

San Felice Chianti Classico 2010                      $15.99
A classically styled wine, the 2010 Chianti Classico San Felice is composed of Sangiovese with additions of Colorino and Pugnitello. This second grape once faced extinction and has recently seen a small renaissance thanks to the efforts of San Felice’s winemaking team. The wine is rich with tart plum, rose petal and dried cherry. The palate offers smooth, velvety tannins. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.  Monica Larner, 92 pts

Pinot Grigio 2012 $11.99
This has a pale straw color.  On the nose the wine shows fresh and fruity aromas of pear along with a hint of honey.  It has a round and smooth mouth feel that makes it an easy sipper, and the white fruit flavors are very pleasing.  A great choice to enjoy with fish and salads.

Prosecco NV $15.99
This sparkling wine has a golden straw color with fresh aromas of citrus and white flowers.  On the palate are more citrus notes along with a touch of grapefruit and some green apples.  It is a perfect aperitif wine with a crisp finish that leaves the palate clean and refreshed.

Puglia Rosso 2010 $13.99
Ruby red in color this wine has very inviting aromas of cherries and spice.  On the palate it is medium-bodied with good acidity and flavors of black fruits, spice, and licorice.  It is smooth with balanced tannins and a pleasant finish.
